Teacher Training Course

Elementary School Education Course, Secondary School Education Course, Special Education Course, and Pre-school Education Course Include practicum teaching at the attached schools and kindergarten to obtain practical skills and learn teaching methods.
■Elementary School Education Course
13 majors: (pedagogy, educational psychology, Japanese language, social studies, mathematics, science, music, arts, health and physical education, home economics, English language, handcrafts and information science, special education) Course includes study of educational theory, teaching methods, and specialist knowledge in 9 school curriculum areas. Classes corresponding to English language education, which will become a required subject, have been established.
■Junior High School Education Course
10 majors: (Japanese language, social studies, mathematics, science, music, arts, health and physical education, technical education, home economics, English language) Focus on inheritance of cultural technologies and the development of creative abilities Course includes study and practice of effective educational materials and teaching methods to cultivate students’ academic abilities.
■Special Education Course
Cultivation of teachers with specialized knowledge and expertise in the education of special needs children. Course includes curriculum areas of education, psychology, and medical science of physically and mentally challenged children.
■Pre-school Education Course
Cultivation of teachers specializing in home education, childcare at health care centers, and education of young children in addition to pre-school education.

School Health Care Teacher Training Course


Study basics of the mechanisms of mind and body, growth of children, relationships between health, life, environment, and society, formation of health, and health support. In addition students study practicing curriculums related to nursing activities including nursing reviews, health counseling, first-aid treatment at school, school health, and health education. Classes for subjects specializing in teachers are also implemented as a basis for educational professionals.

Practical training is implemented step-by-step from first grade. Full-fledged field practice is conducted in the third grade at the attached schools, kindergarten, and cooperative schools.

Kindergarten, Primary School Junior High School and School for Special Needs Children are attached to Faculty of are located in Okayama City. Okayama University has established The Center for Teacher Education and Development, which organizes teaching practice and teaching profession consultation and supports school-related activities such as student voluntary school support.
