October 28, 2014

Okayama University participated in Asia’s biggest bio-business event, “Bio Japan 2014 World Business Forum” which was held at PACIFICO Yokohama from October 15 to 17. In this event our members presented and exhibited the latest research achievements in the fields of medical care, drug development and agriculture, and Okayama Medical Innovation Center (OMIC) also presented and exhibited its research and activities.

Professor Mitsunobu Kano of the Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences explained that the cause of intractability of the pancreatic cancer is not only due to the target cells themselves, but also can be due to the characteristics of its tumor vasculature (i.e. drug delivery routes) in the treatment of that cancer. Assistant Professor Toshiaki Ohara of the same Graduate School introduced the development of a new cancer treatment method based on iron control. In addition to the above, Dr. Shinichi Yamamoto, executive director and vice president, called attention to the high research potential of Okayama University, and Assistant Professor Masaru Akehi of OMIC reported on the latest research and activity using a state-of-the-art research instrument for molecular imaging. As a result, a total of 8 presentations were made and a total of more than 500 people listened intently to the presentations.

At the partnering area in the event hall, they energetically exchanged opinions and consultations towards the implementation of joint research and technological transfer with medical and pharmaceutical related organization members interested in the research achievements.
