Linguistic-Cultural Studies Major: As topics of study, this course discusses not only literary forms, such as poetry, fiction, drama, and essays, but also all forms of expression mediated by language, including proverbs, popular sayings, movie and TV drama scripts, folk songs, J-pop song lyrics, advertising copy, and manga speech balloons. Research on these forms of linguistic expression leads to the discussion of the underlying concerns of culture and society. The primary study fields include Japanese Linguistic-Cultural Studies, Chinese Linguistic-Cultural Studies, British and American Linguistic-Cultural Studies, German Linguistic-Cultural Studies, and French Linguistic-Cultural Studies. Each course emphasizes study focus of its own. In addition, the major has added new subjects: “Linguistic-Cultural Studies Lecture” and “Linguistic-Cultural Studies Practicum” to explore beyond conventional frameworks into new perspectives.
