Amid intensifying globalization and rapid scientific and technological development, the question “What does it mean to be human?” is more important than ever before. Our department is distinguished by an approach to this basic question which integrates multiple branches of the humanities. Our mission is to learn from literature, philosophy, and other aspects of the rich intellectual heritage of human history while applying this knowledge to the modern world. Rather than confining ourselves to past academic frameworks, we aim to proactively cooperate and collaborate with a wide range of fields both inside and outside the humanities and to contribute to the construction of a new image of humankind.
