Acceptance of China Scholarship Council students

The following details the procedures for the acceptance by Okayama University of China Council Scholarship students「国家公派研究生項目」through the Okayama University China Scholarship Council system.

2.Application

 1)Application Period: from October to end of November

Informal consent by the prospective supervisor is required before application.
Please find a prospective supervisor under whom you would like to pursuit your research by
searching this site: (http://soran.cc.okayama-u.ac.jp/search?m=home&l=en).
When you find a potential professor, contact them to receive their approval of your
application.

3.Outline

Ⅰ.1-3 students are accepted
Ⅱ.Date of Entry;

  Spring Admission: April 1
  Fall Admission: October 1

Ⅲ.Enrollment Program / Acceptance Period

(1)Doctoral Students (PhD-degree seeking Course) / Standard duration of the course at host graduate school (3 or 4 years)
(2)Special Research Students (Non-degree Course under a professor’s supervision) / 6 to 12 months

Humanities and Social Sciences Oral examination. Details will be announced to the applicants directly.
Natural Science and Technology Details will be announced to the applicants directly.

Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences Details will be announced to the applicants directly.
Ⅴ.Eligibility

(1)Applicants must be enrolled in a university that is designated by the Chinese Government as a High-level University and which has concluded a Memorandum of Understanding with Okayama University.
(2)Applicants must be recommended by the university prescribed above and should be a candidate for a scholarship from the China Scholarship Council.
(3)Applicants must possess sufficient foreign language proficiency as detailed below to understand educational and research instructions they receive:
 the Japanese Language Proficiency Test N2 and above conducted by the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services;
 or the TOEFL iBT 61 and above conducted by the English Educational Testing Service

※Applicants for Graduate School of Medicine,Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences must be satisfied one of the followings. Please submit one of the followings
●Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT):Grade N2 (2 in old score)or higher
●Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL):Score of 500*/173**/61*** or higher
 *Paper based test
 **Computer based test
 ***Internet based test (iBT)
●Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC):Score of 590 or higher
●International English Language Testing System (IELTS):Score of 5.5 or higher

Ⅵ.Application Documents (please confirm what is required)

(3)Doctoral Student program: Certificate of expected completion
Special Research Student program: Certificate of Enrollment with expected date of completion (form3)
(4)Study / Research Proposal (form4)
(5)Letter of Recommendation from the supervising professor at the home university (form5)
(6)Academic transcripts from undergraduate level
(7)Certificate of Japanese/English language proficiency
(8)A copy of the applicant’s passport or other official identification document issued by the Chinese government. A copy must include the name, the day of birth, and the photo.

*All documents must be written either in Japanese or English

Ⅶ.Selection and Announcement

Applicants are selected based on the above mentioned documents (and if required written and / or oral examination). A “Letter of Acceptance” will be sent to successful applicants by the middle of January however applicants who have not been selected by the China Scholarship Council may not enrol.

Ⅷ.Fees

International students participating in the China Scholarship Council at Okayama University are exempted from paying examination fees, entrance fees, and tuition fees.
