Myanmar Human Resources Development for Quality Improvement in Medical Education in Myanmar

Quality educationGood health and well-beingPartnerships for the goals

Providing safe and quality healthcare has been a challenge in Myanmar due to restrictions on education under the military regime as well as the lack of infrastructure indispensable for medical education, research and clinical practice. Moreover, educational, research and clinical abilities of faculty members themselves have been diminished with degradation in educational system and absence of active learning. Development of cutting-edge human resources for the future of healthcare in Myanmar is in a critical predicament.

Okayama University (OU) Medical Campus has been implementing Myanmar human resources development in a wide range of medical fields for over 20 years. Up to present, OU has accepted a total of approximately 100 students and trainees. Meanwhile, medical collaboration has been actively promoted through local activities in Myanmar.

Activities in medical and dental fields: Accepting Japanese Government Scholarship and JICA students; short-term medical student exchange program (under the Roof-tile Education System); short-term training at University Hospital; and education through lectures, clinical collaboration and oral cancer screening in Myanmar.

OU Medical Campus aims at sustainable improvement in medical education and enrichment of healthcare in Myanmar, as well as at establishment of a global partnership between the two countries.
