5th Kanemitsu Award Ceremony

April 06, 2022

On April 2, Okayama University held the 5th Kanemitsu Award Ceremony, honoring students who have made significant achievements in their research or international activities. In order to reduce the risk of spreading the new coronavirus infection, the ceremony was held in two parts at the Zip Arena Okayama (Okayama Prefectural Multipurpose Grounds), immediately following the 2022 matriculation ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate students. As with the matriculation ceremonies, the Kanemitsu Award Ceremony for undergraduate students was held in the morning, while the ceremony for graduate students was held in the afternoon.

Okayama University President MAKINO Hirofumi read out the names of award recipients, and conferred a certificate of commendation and a list of award on student representatives. Addressing those present in the arena, President Makino said, “I hope that this award will encourage you to continue pursuing your research and playing an active role in your field of interest. I would also like to encourage new entrants to actively cultivate their interests outside of the classroom so that you can achieve excellent results like the award recipients here today.”

※The Kanemitsu Award is awarded to graduate and undergraduate students based on a generous donation from KANEMITSU Tomio, who was among the second batch of graduates from Okayama University and a philanthropist. Recipients for the graduate school are generally those enrolled in doctoral programs who have made remarkable achievements in research, while undergraduate recipients are generally students in their 4th year (as of April) who excel in international activities such as studying abroad and have been recognized for their excellent academic achievement. One student from each graduate school / faculty is awarded.
