Research Professor Awardees ENNISHI (Hospital) Selected for AMED 2022 “Project for Cancer Research and Therapeutic Evolution”

Research Professor Awardees ENNISHI Daisuke of the Okayama University Hospital Center for Comprehensive Genomic Medicine has been selected for the “2022 Project for Cancer Research and Therapeutic Evolution” from the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED).
 
The project falls under the Comprehensive 10‐Year Strategy for Cancer Control and aims to out-license to pharmaceutical companies and the like at an early stage by accelerating research for practical application, through the promotion of research investigating the biological characteristics of cancer, studies using patient data such as genome information, and interdisciplinary research in these areas.
 
Professor ENNISHI applied for the project with the research and development subject of “Development of a new treatment to overcome lymphoma spatio-temporal heterogeneity caused by hybrid gene mutations” in the category “research area E (cancer diversity), innovative cancer therapy that addresses cancer cell heterogeneity.” Professor ENNISHI’s research was accepted from a large pool of 38 applications, and he will lead a research team from 2022 to 2024.
 
In response to his research being selected, Professor ENNISHI said, “through this research, I want to discover the pathogenic mechanism of malignant lymphomas and develop a new treatment for it.” He showed enthusiasm about his research activities for the coming three years.
 
Professor ENNISHI is an exceptional researcher who carries the title of “Research Professor,” which is awarded to outstanding associate professors to promote their activities as a Principal Investigator (PI), and comes with incentives such as the enhancement of research funding allocation and research activities. Furthermore, he was selected for the FOREST* (Fusion Orientated Research for disruptive Science and Technology) Program, a Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) program to support young researchers, and is a leading young researcher of both Okayama University and Japan. We look forward to hearing more about the activities of Professor ENNISHI’s research team in the near future.
