Swimming Team Claims 4th in the Men’s and 5th in the Women’s Division at the Japan National and Public University Championship Swimming Tournament!

September 06, 2022

The 69th Japan National and Public University Championship Swimming Tournament was held from August 10-12 at Kanazawa Pool (Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture). In the overall rankings, the Okayama University swimming team came 4th in the men’s division, and 5th in the women’s division.

The tournament was comprised of 97 universities nationwide who won in the preliminaries. Points were awarded depending on results in each event, and universities competed against each other for the top overall score in the men’s and women’s divisions. The Okayama University swimming team were just short of their goal of being seeded (awarded to the top three ranked universities), but managed to improve on last year’s score of 6th for both the men’s and women’s divisions.

In response to this year’s results, swimming team captain TSUKAHARA Tetsu (School of Education, fourth year) said, “we will work even harder to be seeded at next year’s championship.”

The swimming team won both the men’s and women’s divisions at the Chugoku Five University Student Swimming Tournament held at the Kojima Marine Pool (Kurashiki) on July 2-3. At the 53rd Chugoku Shikoku University Student Swimming Championship held at the Shimane Prefectural Swimming Pool (Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture) on July 9-10, the swimming team won the men’s division and came runner up in the women’s.
