Chugoku Five University Student Volleyball Tournament Held at Okayama University

October 07, 2022

The 73rd Chugoku Five University Student Tournament (volleyball tournament) was held on September 17-18 at Gymnasium No. 2 at the Tsushima Campus, organized by the Okayama University volleyball team.

This year was the first time in three years the event was held. The title was fought out between Hiroshima University, Yamaguchi University, Shimane University, and Okayama University in the men’s division, and Hiroshima University, Yamaguchi University, Shimane University, Tottori University and Okayama University in the women’s division.

In the men’s division, Hiroshima University won the championship for the seventh consecutive year. In the women’s division, Yamaguchi University claimed victory for the first time.

Okayama University placed third and fourth in the men’s and women’s divisions respectively. Reflecting on the tournament, Okayama University’s NAKAMURA Takuro (School of Education, third year), who was in charge of organizing the event, said, “we had to make major changes to the schedule because of the typhoon, but thanks to everyone’s cooperation we were able to hold the event. I’d like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to everyone who helped to make this event happen, and to the players from each university. Seeing the way the players would try their hardest to connect the ball until the end of the match, and how everyone interacted with each other outside of the matches, going beyond their university boundaries... I was deeply moved and thankful that we were able to hold the tournament. As well as passing on my experience at this tournament to the next generation, I hope that we can continue to deepen the ties between the five Chugoku universities so that we can continue to hold the tournament over the coming years as well.”
