Men's Ice Hockey Club Wins 38th Chugoku-Shikoku Student Ice Hockey Tournament! Advanced to the Intercollegiate!

December 19, 2022

The 38th Chugoku-Shikoku Student Ice Hockey Tournament was held at the Hiroshin Big Wave Skating Rink (Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture) from November 18 to 20, and our university's men's ice hockey club won the championship.
Seven universities from the Chugoku and Shikoku region participated in the tournament. Each team competes in a tournament game, and the winning team earns the right to participate in the intercollegiate tournament.
Last year, our club lost to Kagawa University in the final and finished second, a disappointing result. With a single-minded determination to make up for last year's disappointment and win this year's tournament and qualify for the intercollegiate tournament, all players, managers, supervisors, and coaches have been working together in daily practice. They entered the finals with confidence that they had practiced hard enough to beat any other university, and with a strong determination to win the championship.
Finally, in the match, they defeated Hiroshima Shudo University in the first round and Kagawa University in the second round to advance to the finals. In the final match, they defeated Yamaguchi University 7-1 to win the long-desired championship!
Captain Hideki KAWAMUKAI (4th year, Faculty of Environmental Science and Technology) commented, "While practice and games were restricted again this year due to the effects of the new coronavirus, we searched for what we could do as a club, and all the players, managers, and coaches worked hard in our club activities as a team for a full year. We are very happy to see the results of our efforts in the form of a victory in this year's tournament. We will not be satisfied with this time's result, and we will keep our spirits up until the end to do our best for the final round of the Intercollegiate Tournament. Thank you very much for your support!"
The best 6 players in the tournament were KAWAMUKAI Hideki and FUKUE Rikuto (4th year, Faculty of Law) in the Forward Division, SUZUKI Junpei(3rd year, School of Letters) in the Defense Division, and KASA Ryousuke (3rd year, School of Letters) in the Goalkeeper Division. YAMAMOTO Haru (2nd year, School of Engineering) was selected as the best player of the tournament, and also received the award for the most points, given to the player who scored the most goals. Yamamoto said, " I was selected as the best player in this tournament, but I didn't get it on my own. We were able to win the championship thanks to my teammates. It was a very fun tournament. I am very grateful to my seniors."
At this tournament, the team came together and achieved the best performance, which filled the entire venue with joy and moved many people. The intercollegiate will be held from December 20th to 25th (Higashiyamato City, Tokyo). They have their eyes set on further goals and are striving once again to achieve them.
