Table Tennis Club Participates in the 88th All-Japan University Comprehensive Table Tennis Championships and the 54th Chugoku Newcomer Student Table Tennis Championships!

February 01, 2023

Eight members of our university's table tennis club participated in the 88th All-Japan University All-Around Table Tennis Championships and Individual Division held at YMIT Arena (Kusatsu City, Shiga Prefecture) from October 20 to 23, 2022. The players, who had won their respective regional tournaments, gathered from all over Japan to compete in a fierce competition. Although our club narrowly missed out on winning a prize, there were some excellent performances throughout the tournament, and the team members were able to fully demonstrate the results of their daily practice sessions.
On December 10 and 11, 2022, the 54th Chugoku Newcomer Student Table Tennis Championships were held at the Kasaoka Gymnasium (Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture), where many universities in the Chugoku region participated, including Hiroshima University, Shimane University, Tottori University, Yamaguchi University, and Okayama University of Commerce in addition to our university. In the team competition, Okayama University Team A took second place in both the men's and women's team competitions, with ISOMURA Manato (2nd year, School of Engineering) taking 3rd place in the men's singles competition, the pair of ISOMURA and KISHIMOTO Kota (2nd year, School of Engineering) taking 3rd place in the men's doubles competition, YOSHIMURA Sumika (2nd year, Faculty of Law) taking 3rd place in the women's singles competition, and the pair of YOSHIMURA and Ms. WATANABE Iyoko (1st year, Faculty of Law) taking 3rd place in the women's doubles competition.
After the tournament, the men's captain Mr. Kishimoto said, "We did not reach our goal of winning both the men's and women's championships, but I will use this frustration as fuel to practice daily for future competitions. Thank you for your support.” The women's captain Ms. Yoshimura said, "This was our first tournament under the new organization after the retirement of our seniors, but the first and second-year students were able to play together. We will work hard in practice based on the issues and reflections we found at the rookie tournament so that we can achieve good results in the next year's tournament," with enthusiasm for future tournaments.
