On April 2, the AY2024 Okayama University Matriculation Ceremony was held at the Okayama Prefectural Multipurpose Grounds Gymnasium (Zip Arena Okayama) to welcome a total of 3,521 undergraduate and graduate students to the university.
President NASU Yasutomo introduced the concept of "FUEKI-RYUKO " as the keynote of his speech. He stated, "Even as times change, there are things that remain constant, which we call 'FUEKI ,' and there are things that must change in response to the changing times, societal demands, and expectations, which we call 'RYUKO .' I urge each of you to consider what 'FUEKI-RYUKO ' means to you personally." He further expressed his expectations for the new students, emphasizing the importance of imaginative thinking, altruism, and proactive engagement with issues concerning not only themselves but also their families, friends, local communities, and the planet.
Representing the new students, ASAKURA Eri from the Discovery Program for Global Learners pledged, "As new students, we vow to tackle the challenges before us with sincerity at Okayama University, an institution rich in history and tradition, and strive to become individuals who can contribute to society by diligently pursuing our studies and ensuring that our student lives are fruitful."
Following the ceremony, the Okayama University Cheering Squad performed a spirited routine to encourage the new students as they embark on their university journey.
