From October 18 to 20, Okayama University's Japanese Archery Club competed in the 70th Chugoku-Shikoku University Archery Championship held at the Kagawa General Gymnasium in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture. The men’s team won first place in the team competition, while the women’s team earned third place! The victory in the men’s team event marks the club’s first championship in 11 years and their 13th overall. Furthermore, FUJIMA Haruya (3rd year, School of Engineering) was awarded the Best Male Archer prize, and FUJII Haruka (3rd year, School of Letters) received the Best Female Archer Runner-up prize. Ms. Fujii also achieved an excellent 4th place finish in the individual women’s event. As a result, the men’s team secured a spot in the "All Japan University Archery Championship," and Mr. Fujima and Ms. Fujii earned invitations to the "East-West University Archery Invitational Match."
This championship featured both team and individual competitions, with a total of 56 teams and 477 participants. The Best Archer and Runner-up Archer awards are given to the top two competitors based on their overall score in both the qualifying rounds and the final league.
Team captain TOYODA Yuta (3rd year, Faculty of Law) commented, “We positioned this competition as the ultimate goal for the club and practiced daily to win. There were times when our performance didn’t improve as expected, and many of us faced challenges, but we were able to achieve great results in the competition we had set our sights on. I believe this success is thanks to the warm support from our teachers, seniors, alumni, and families. We will continue to work hard and strive to bring more good news in the future.”
With outstanding performances in both the team and individual events, we look forward to the Japanese Archery Club’s continued success in the All Japan University Archery Championship and the East-West University Archery Invitational Match.
