Presentation of Initiatives by the Student Group “TEDx Okayama University Executive Committee,” Winner of the 2024 Okayama University SDGs Promotion Award

June 26, 2025

On June 11, a presentation of the initiatives awarded the 2024 Okayama University SDGs Promotion Award was held at the university’s faculty and department liaison meeting.
In FY2024, awards were given in four categories: “Education,” “Research,” “Other workplace contributions,” and “Student group initiatives.” Five groups were selected through a nomination process.
At this session, the TEDx Okayama University Executive Committee, which received the Excellence Award in the “Student group initiatives” category, gave a presentation on its activities.

The TEDx Okayama University Executive Committee is composed mainly of multinational students from the Discovery Program for Global Learners (GDP) and aims to amplify diverse voices from Okayama, empower the local community, and connect Okayama with the world.
The committee successfully brought TED Talks, which seeks to spread valuable ideas globally through presentations, to Okayama University—marking the first-ever TEDx Okayama University event in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions.

During the presentation, Lin Thu Kha Htaik (4th year, GDP), the representative of the committee, explained the background, objectives, and challenges of organizing the event, as well as the lessons learned through the activities.
Reflecting on the initiative, Lin commented, “Thanks to the support of many people, we were able to host the event and successfully connect Okayama with the world.”

In response, Vice Executive Director and Vice President (Academic Affairs) SUGA Seiji encouraged the continuation of the project by involving younger students, while President NASU Yasutomo expressed his expectations for students’ proactive engagement and offered words of encouragement.
