Okayama University Medical School Team “Copain” Advances to Finals of the ILO Youth Congress Student Pitch Contest!

July 07, 2025

Students from the School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Okayama University, formed a team named “Copain,” which has been selected as one of the eight finalist teams in the International Labour Organization (ILO) Youth Congress Student Pitch Contest.

The ILO’s Youth Congress on “Designing Safety, Health and Well-being at Work in the Digital Age” aims to raise awareness, particularly among young people, of their rights to safe and healthy work and to promote action to realize those rights. In this contest, student teams present innovative ideas to advance workplace health, safety, and well-being.

Copain’s proposal, titled “Dignity and Health Woven Through Learning: A New Private Sector-Led Safety Net for the World,” aims to address issues of social isolation and employment difficulties faced by groups such as foreign workers in Japan, persons with disabilities, and individuals at risk of mental illness.

Team leader MORIMOTO Shota (4th year, Medical School) shared his aspirations:

“Through our activities as SDGs Ambassadors and six months of ILO pre-training, we have learned the importance of human connection. In this digital age, we want to focus on the often-overlooked aspects of humanity and strive to create a sustainable future where all workers are respected and empowered.”

The final competition will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, in the Shine Hat Hall at the Osaka/Kansai Expo venue. President NASU Yasutomo, Vice President for Global Engagement YOKOI Atsufumi, and other Okayama University students are expected to attend the event to cheer for the team.

Okayama University sincerely supports the efforts and passion of Team Copain and wishes them great success in the finals!
