December 10, 2025

On November 15, President NASU Yasutomo of Okayama University attended the 4th Japan–India Universities Forum held at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad in Hyderabad, India. The forum, hosted by the national R&D agency Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), commemorated the 40th anniversary of the Japan–India Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement and gathered Japanese and Indian universities, research institutions, and companies to deepen collaboration in science and technology.

The event brought together 49 Japanese and 36 Indian institutions, companies, and organizations. Through high-level roundtable discussions and bilateral meetings, participants explored the theme of strengthening academic-industry collaboration and promoting “brain circulation” between Japan and India.

At one of the roundtables, President NASU and President Suman Chakraborty of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur served as co-chairs for a session on “Strengthening Japan–India Joint Research at Regional Core and Distinctive Research Universities,” which saw a wide exchange of ideas among seven Japanese and Indian universities.

Additionally, President NASU held bilateral talks with four Indian universities represented at the forum to explore concrete pathways for future collaboration.

Following the forum, Okayama University plans to expand its collaborative network beyond Kolkata to universities and research institutes across India, aiming to deepen academic and industrial partnerships and foster global human resources through increased exchanges and joint research efforts.
