April 28, 2026

On April 16, a delegation from Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy (HPUMP) in Vietnam, a partner institution of Okayama University, visited the university and paid a courtesy call on President NASU Yasutomo. The delegation was led by President NGUYEN Van Khai.

Representing Okayama University were Vice Executive Director and Professor KUBOKI Takuo, Professor OHASHI Toshitaka, Professor HONDA Tomoyuki, Professor KOYAMA Toshihiro, Associate Professor KIM Hye-Sook, Assistant Professor MAEDA Azusa, and Professor ZAMAMI Yoshito, Director of the Department of Pharmacy, along with 12 Vietnamese international students currently studying at Okayama University. President Khai had previously visited Okayama University in July 2023, making this their first reunion in approximately three years.

Okayama University and Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy first established a faculty-level agreement between their dental schools in 2010. This partnership was expanded into a university-wide agreement in 2015, and since then, continuous exchanges of students, faculty, and staff have been actively promoted.

These longstanding collaborative achievements have been highly recognized. In December 2013, Professor Kuboki was awarded the title of Honorary Professor by HPUMP. In August 2024, Professor Ohashi also received the same distinction. Since then, a number of Okayama University faculty members in the medical and dental fields have likewise been honored, further strengthening the network between the two institutions.

During the courtesy visit, both presidents delivered remarks, followed by a presentation from Assistant Professor Maeda introducing the history of exchanges between the two universities and future prospects for cooperation. The meeting proceeded in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

President Nasu expressed his appreciation for the delegation’s visit and stated his hope that the cooperative relationship built over the years would continue to grow stronger. Addressing the students in attendance, he also shared reflections from his own study abroad experience, encouraging them to make the most of the valuable opportunity to learn overseas. He emphasized that the university would continue to provide full support to help make their international experiences meaningful and rewarding.

This latest visit is expected to further deepen the international partnership between Okayama University and Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
