The Institute for Global Human Resource Development successfully held the Okayama University Summer Program 2026: "Discovering Japan: Culture, Society and Sustainability" from July 2 to July 18 for students from EPOK partner institutions.

The program was newly developed in response to the growing demand for short-term study opportunities among EPOK partner universities and was launched as a pilot summer program open to all EPOK partner institutions.

Students from Thailand, the United States, the Philippines, and the United Kingdom participated in the program. Through academic courses on Japanese culture, society, and sustainability, together with Survival Japanese classes, participants developed a deeper understanding of Japan while acquiring practical communication skills for daily life and intercultural exchange.

The program combined classroom learning with experiential activities throughout Okayama and the Setouchi region. In addition to lectures and workshops, students participated in fieldwork at the Kurashiki Historical Quarter, Naoshima, Okayama Korakuen Garden, and Okayama Castle, as well as cultural activities including the tea ceremony, flower arrangement, calligraphy, and the Tanabata Festival. These experiences enabled participants to connect academic learning with firsthand cultural experiences and gain a deeper appreciation of Japanese society.

The program also created opportunities for co-learning by bringing together international participants, Japanese students, and international students at Okayama University. Through collaborative learning and intercultural exchange, participants broadened their global perspectives while developing a deeper understanding of diverse cultures and values.

The Summer Program represents a new initiative to strengthen collaboration with EPOK partner institutions while showcasing the educational environment of Okayama University and the rich cultural heritage of the Setouchi region to the world. Looking ahead, the University will continue to expand opportunities for international co-learning, strengthen global partnerships, and further enhance its international education initiatives, encouraging future student exchange and graduate study at Okayama University.
