Fifteen Okayama University students participated in the Japan University English Model United Nations 2026 (JUEMUN 2026), held at Kobe City University of Foreign Studies from July 10 to 12.

JUEMUN is an educational program modeled on a United Nations conference, in which participants take on the roles of ambassadors representing countries other than their own and engage in discussions and negotiations on international issues. The program aims to deepen participants’ understanding of global issues while developing international communication skills, including language proficiency, negotiation skills, logical thinking, and discussion skills.

This year’s theme was “Building a Gender Inclusive Society.” A total of 193 students from 16 universities represented 26 countries and discussed issues including protecting women and girls from gender-based violence, promoting women’s economic participation, and increasing women’s participation in political decision-making and peacebuilding processes.

Fifteen students from Okayama University participated under the guidance of Associate ProfessorTim Cleminson, Faculty of General and Global Studies Division. The students represented Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, India, Latvia, and Paraguay.

The students prepared extensively through the “English Diplomacy” course prior to the conference. Through research, negotiations, and intercultural collaboration, they worked toward the adoption of draft resolutions. Their participation provided a valuable opportunity to put into practice the global competencies fostered through Okayama University’s Global Human Resources Development initiatives.
