OKAMUN2026 (Okayama Model United Nations) Held

August 07, 2026

Okayama University and Notre Dame Seishin University held OKAMUN2026 (Okayama Model United Nations) on June 15 and 29. The events were held at Notre Dame Seishin University on June 15 and at KIBINOVE at Okayama University on June 29, with approximately 50 students from both universities participating.

Model United Nations is an educational activity modeled on a United Nations conference, in which participants take on the roles of ambassadors representing countries other than their own and engage in discussions and negotiations on international issues. The activity aims to deepen participants’ understanding of global challenges while developing international communication skills, including language proficiency, negotiation skills, logical thinking, and discussion skills.

At OKAMUN2026, the main topics included protecting women and girls from gender-based violence, promoting women’s economic participation, and increasing women’s participation in political decision-making and peacebuilding processes. Participants engaged in discussions and negotiations based on the positions of the countries they represented.

The event provided a practical opportunity for students to prepare for the Japan University English Model United Nations (JUEMUN), held in July. Students who did not participate in JUEMUN also took part as journalists and reporters, covering the Model United Nations sessions and subsequently producing news videos.

For the participating students, the event provided a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of Model United Nations activities and to think proactively about international issues.
