From October 10 to 16, 2026, eight undergraduate and graduate students from Okayama University, accompanied by Ms. Yun Hongling, section manager of the university’s International Education and Student Mobility Division, visited Beijing and Tianjin as part of the Japan–China Student Friendship Delegation. The program was organized by the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Osaka and the China Education Association for International Exchange.

During the seven-day visit, the students explored China’s history and culture, learned about its modern society and technological advances, and interacted with local students and education professionals. They also visited sites of historical and cultural significance, including Beijing’s Central Axis, the Forbidden City, and the Temple of Heaven, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Experiencing China firsthand gave the students insights that cannot be gained from secondhand accounts alone. Through direct encounters and conversations, they gained new perspectives and deepened their understanding of Chinese society and its people.

At the final reflection session, the students presented a mock trial inspired by the Japanese TV drama 99.9 Criminal Lawyer, examining their pre-visit perceptions of China. They concluded that Japan–China friendship stood at “99.9%,” with the remaining 0.1% representing the potential for future student exchanges to bring the two peoples closer together.

The delegation also included students from Hiroshima University and Wakayama University, providing opportunities for inter-university exchange. The visit highlighted the value of firsthand experience and personal connections in challenging preconceptions and fostering mutual understanding. The students returned with new perspectives and a renewed commitment to building bridges between Japan and China through continued exchange.
