New Mille Crêpe sold at the “Delicious, University Food” fair in Tokyo

June 22, 2010

From 2nd to 8th June, Okayama University participated and sold their newly made cake “Mocchiri Okadai Mille Crêpe (¥787)” in a food fair held at Takashimaya department store (Shinjuku Branch, Tokyo). In this third annual Shougakukan food fair named “Delicious, University Food”, foods made and grown by universities around the country were gathered and sold.

Mille Crêpe is a cake made by layering many crêpes together with fruits and fresh cream spread throughout it. Rice flour made from “Okadai Rice” by the Faculty of Agriculture, and “Nyohou” strawberries grown by a university venture company, named “NOZOMI Farm”, were used in the new crêpe cake. The cake features a texture close to mochi (thick, soft, and chewy) and was made by a café called “Signe” in Okayama.

Earlier on the 18th of May, students who grew the rice from the Faculty of Agriculture were able to taste the crêpe cake. “The refreshing sweet taste together with the unique mochi texture made the cake really delicious”, “We used the rice that we worked very hard to grow in this cake, so hopefully the people in Tokyo will enjoy it too,” said some of the students.

In the food fair, sake (“OO-Okadai” series, including Honjozo ¥1050, Jyunmai-Ginjo ¥1575, Ume-shu ¥1260), “Okadai cookies ¥700”, tomatoes ¥250, and strawberries ¥400 (these berries were also used in the Mille Crêpe cake) made by the faculty of Agriculture were also sold.
