Okayama University Holds Second Japanese Speech Contest of the Three Provinces of Northeast China

Okayama University held the Second Japanese Speech Contest of the Three Provinces of Northeast China at Northeastern University in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, China, on October 17. A total of 62 students from 42 universities in the three provinces of northeast China applied to participate in the contest, and of these 11 students were selected to give speeches after a preliminary screening of application documents.

The speech judges included Consul General Tsutomu Osawa of the Consulate-General of Japan in Shenyang and Prof. Yoko Yamamoto, Director of Center for Global Partnerships and Education, Okayama University. After strict and fair judging, Ms. Bao Zhihong of the Dalian Nationalities University was awarded first prize and Mr. Liu Yang of Northeastern University won the second place award. An extra award of a five-day study tour of Okayama University was also presented to the two winners.

Okayama University established a Changchun Office in the Northeast Normal University, located in Changchun City, Jilin Province in August 2007. As well as promoting student and academic exchanges in northeast China, the office also provides information for Chinese students who wish to study overseas and carries out PR activities for Okayama University.

This speech contest was organized with the cooperation of the Vice President of Northeastern University, Wang Jinkuan; the Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department, Yu Fuxiao; and the Vice Dean of the Foreign Studies College, Wang Qiuju. Okayama University plans to continue to hold this speech contest annually as one part of our university PR activities.
