November 22, 2017

Masamitsu Kamiura, a fifth year student at Okayama University Medical School took first place in the student session for Best Poster Presentation at the 49th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Medical Education (Sapporo, August 18-19).

Under the guidance of Assistant Professor Yoshitaka Kondo and Professor Toshiyoshi Fujiwara in the Department of Gastroenterological Surgery, Kamiura put on a poster presentation, titled “Suggestions from a Student Judging from Heart Rate in Attending Surgery for the First Time” as head presenter. He reported that by monitoring his own heart rate during surgery and understanding what his own role and techniques were to be beforehand, he was able to concentrate on his work without his heart rate rising excessively. Kamiura says, “I was very surprised. I owe it all to my teachers who were guiding me. I want to use this experience as a source of encouragement in the future.”
