The Weight Training Club Gained Good Results in the “2019 Asian Classic Powerlifting Championships” and the “38th Autumn Kansai Student Powerlifting Championships”!

TERAOKA Takuro (Faculty of Economics, sophomore) of the University ‘s Weight Training Club was stunning at the 53kg class for junior men at the “2019 Asian Classic Powerlifting Championships” held in Almaty, Kazakhstan on December 2-8, 2019. He won the second place. In addition, at the “38th Autumn Kansai Student Powerlifting Championships” held at our university on December 8th, the club won as a group, with six individuals winning individual classes.

At the “2019 Asian Classic Powerlifting Championships”, players who met the criteria in the domestic selection tournament were dispatched, and Mr. Teraoka participated for the first time. Powerlifting is a sport that competes for the sum of the maximum lifting weights of the three types of lifts: squats, bench presses, and deadlifts. Mr. TERAOKA finished the first place in bench press and the second place in squat.
In response to this result, Mr. TERAOKA said, “It was my first international tournament, but Japanese team members supported each other and I did my best. As a result of being able to carry the game without big mistakes, I am glad that I was able to get a higher ranking than I had aimed. I would like to return this experience to the club, which will lead to the consecutive Intercollege victory and the participation of many club members in international competitions.”

In addition, at the “38th Autumn Kansai Student Powerlifting Championships”, Okayama University won the Kyoto University of Advanced Science, which also competed in Intercollege, and achieved its first group championship in two years. By rank, six people have won individual victory, as shown in the following results. “We are delighted to be able to celebrate the last student competition in 2019 with a victory,” said YAMATO Yuki, captain of the club (Faculty of Environmental Science and Technology, Senior). Kyoto University of Advanced Science is an opponent we have competed for the victory in Intercollege, and we must continue to fight against them. Being able to beat such a college and win the first place was a great experience to build my confidence for 2020.”
