Program Overview

Pharmaceutical Science is an integral field that involves the following elements:

  1. nalysis: Investigating the molecular basis of biological phenomena and causes of disease.
  2. Creation: Developing substances regulating biological functions.
  3. Application: Optimizing applications of, and generating new applications for developed substances.

In order to produce students who can take on these aforementioned tasks, Okayama University’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences ensures that students acquire the understanding of both fundamental and applied science, as well as scientific techniques. In addition, we foster the observation, intuition, analysis, reason, research, and presentation skills of each student in order for them to make new and innovative discoveries. Furthermore, the Faculty nurtures students who possess the dedication to society and ethics, required to ensure the moralistic application of any pharmaceutical results, and contribute to the development of an international society.

In conclusion, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences will provide students with a common educational foundation involving the three elements (analysis, creation, and application) mentioned above. In particular, the Department of Pharmacy is responsible for the development of pharmacists who possess the specialized knowledge required for the application of substances intended for human use; while the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology is responsible for nurturing students who will take on research involving the aforementioned elements; analysis, creation, and application.

Profiles of Exemplary Candidates

Pharmaceutical Science is a life science, whose domain begins with the fundamental sciences such as chemistry, biology, physics, and extends to the application-based sciences such as biotechnology. The exploration and study of which is the basis of scientific techniques required in the development, production, and appropriate use of the pharmaceutical substances that enrich and aid the existence of humankind. Okayama University’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences selects candidates 1) who possess a comprehensive academic ability equivalent to that of a high school graduate; and 2) who demonstrate the potential to understand and apply any course material related to the specialized field. We are seeking students who have completed the following subjects at high school prior to admission; Science (either physics or biology, in addition to chemistry), Foreign Languages (English), Mathematics, Japanese, Geography, History, and Social Science.

We are also seeking applicants with the following qualities:

  1. A superior sense of moral and ethics.
  2. A passion and a clear sense of purpose.
  3. A rich sense of humanity, and desire to be proactively sociable.

Department of Pharmacy

Program Overview

The Department of the Pharmacy produces graduates with the specialized knowledge and the technical expertise required to perform the role of a pharmacist, that is, the administration of pharmaceutical substances for the purpose of human medical treatment. In addition, the department nurtures graduates who have developed the observation, analysis, reason, research, presentation, and intuition skills necessary for the generation of new knowledge, including the analysis and generation of knowledge based on the aforementioned knowledge and technical expertise, resulting in a contribution to international society.

Profiles of Exemplary Candidates

We select candidates 1) who possess a comprehensive academic ability equivalent to that of a high school graduate; and 2) who demonstrate the potential to understand and apply any course material related to the specialized field. We are seeking students who have completed the following subjects at high school prior to admission; Science (either physics or biology, in addition to chemistry), Foreign Languages (English), Mathematics, Japanese, Geography, History, and Social Science.

We are also seeking applicants with the following qualities:

  1. Individuals who possess appropriate ethics and morals, a continual sense of curiosity and passion for research, and a desire to perform the role of a pharmacist with advanced scholarship and cutting-edge technical expertise.
  2. Individuals who aim to achieve the role of researcher or educator in the field of Pharmaceutical Science following graduation from a graduate school (doctorate course).

Department of Pharmaceutical Technology

Program Overview

In the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, in regards to all areas of drug analysis, development, and application, students acquire the specialized expertise and knowledge necessary to complete research related to the variant states of human life and biology (illness and disease). In addition, the department produces graduates who have developed the observation, analysis, reason, research, presentation, and intuition skills necessary for the generation of new knowledge, including the analysis and generation of knowledge based on the aforementioned knowledge and technical expertise, resulting in a contribution to international society.

Profiles of Exemplary Candidates

We select candidates 1) who possess a comprehensive academic ability equivalent to that of a high school graduate; and 2) who demonstrate the potential to understand and apply any course material related to the specialized field. We are seeking students who have completed the following subjects at high school prior to admission; Science (either physics or biology, in addition to chemistry), Foreign Languages (English), Mathematics, Japanese, Geography, History, and Social Science.

We are also seeking applicants with the following qualities:

  1. Individuals who possess appropriate ethics and morals, a continual sense of curiosity and passion for research, and a desire to work in the field of Physical and Organic Chemistry.
  2. Individuals who plan to continue their study in graduate school, with the future aim of using their qualifications as researchers or educators in the field of Physical and Organic Chemistry, both regionally and internationally.
