主な研究テーマ
乾燥地域から湿潤地域までのさまざまな森林植生を対象として,森林を構成する樹種の侵入と定着,生残,成長,および枯死の特性を生理生態学的に解析することによって,森林の機能,構造,および維持機構を基礎的に明らかにします。特に,樹種ごとの水利用特性やそれに基づく生存戦略に注目して明らかにします。それらの基礎的知見にもとづいて,人工的な更新誘導など,衰退した森林の修復手法の構築を試みます。
