Welcome to GIS corner !!

Japanese

What's GIS ?

 GIS means Geographic Information System.
We'll use GIS to create and manage various maps, and to solve a lot of questions on spatial analysis etc. We find the use of GIS on many fields, for example, Geography, Town Planning, Environment protection and so on.

GIS in archaeology

On the archaeological study, we suggest that it is possible to create distributional maps under some factors, to reconstruct terrains and to use on spatial analysis. But GIS is not used in Japan neccesarily, we find a lot of studies in Europe, US and so on. They treat GIS as one of major subjects.

We use GIS... - The study about GIS in Department of archaeology,Okayama university

We try to study the way of GIS for the archaeological studies to use GIS software, IDRISI, for personal computers. But now, it is the situation that we repeat simulations for archaeoloical studies, so it is not to say that we won't use for real although it is near. The reason for this is that we don't have many knowledge for computer itself, sometimes beyond our knowledges!! We remain a lot of problems, but we think to use one of the most conventional tools for archaeological studies.

Let's use GIS !

Few archaeologists use GIS for archaeological studies in Japan. There is a lot of problems because our studies are simulations yet. We introduce several of our simulations or studies on tis corner, please see these.
If you think "we can do this." ,or "I'll try GIS !", please send your messages to us. Let's use GIS !
