土壌圏は作物生産と生物生息の場であり,水,窒素,炭素などの物質循環や浄化をつかさどる公益的機能を有しています.ところが,過度の人間活動に伴って,土壌・水質汚染,土壌劣化などの環境問題が生じ,土壌圏の修復・保全・管理技術の開発が求められています.本分野では,土壌の諸機能や役割の定量化,土壌・水質汚染や土壌劣化の機構解明などを研究テーマに掲げ,土壌圏の持続的利用に必要な生態学的および工学的理論の構築や技術開発を行なっています.
担当教員は土壌肥料学および農業環境工学を専門とし,畑地における硝酸性窒素溶脱のモニタリングおよびモデル化に関する研究を行っています.また,さまざまな肥培管理での窒素溶脱を容易に予測できる窒素溶脱解析ツールSOILN-jpnを開発し,検証とデータベース構築を進めています.
