Cutting-Edge Radiotherapy of Cancers and Approach to Its International Guideline

 The Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) is the cutting-edge cancer therapy to give a mortal damage to each cancer cell by radiating neutrons if boron (10B) atoms are selectively introduced in its cell. The Quality of Life (QOL) of the patient treated is kept under good control.

 The Neutron Therapy Research Center (NTRC) of Okayama University (OU) is developing a proper boron agent of BNCT based on the genetic information of each patient. An efficient accelerator-based neutron generator is now under development by Nagoya University, collaborated with OU. We first apply our BNCT to Head & Neck Cancers, then will extend it to Pediatric Cancers, etc.

 The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is the international regulatory organization of radiotherapies. At the 60th General Conference of IAEA in 2016, IAEA held the Side Event of BNCT together with OU. An agreement of cooperation between OU and IAEA in research and higher education in BNCT is formalized since October 2017.
