Improvement of power quality deterioration caused by a large amount of photovoltaic power

Affordable and clean energyIndustty, Innovation and InfrastructureSustinable cities and communitiesClimate action

 From the viewpoint of global warming and depletion of fossil fuels, the use of renewable energy is being promoted on a global scale. Transition from automobiles fueled with gasoline and light oil to electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles with CO2 zero emissions is now occurring. In Japan, the road maps corresponding to this transition have been created under the initiative of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and this transition is under way.

 We aim to improve the power quality deterioration of electric power system caused by a large amount of photovoltaic power (PV) shown in Fig. 1 and are undertaking the following research.
1. Development of the optimal placement and control
method of power equipment to improve power quality
deterioration due to fluctuation of PV power.
2. Construction of a hydrogen station (Fig. 2) which
generates hydrogen from PV power.
 Further, we are conducting research on the development of a more efficient PV system;
3. Development of a novel solar radiation measuring
technique and a switching method of PV panel
connection for effective utilization of solar energy.
