Okayama University UNESCO Chair becomes registered as a Permanent Member of UNESCO’s Global University Network for Innovation

On March 4, “Okayama University UNESCO Chair for Education for Sustainable Development” was registered as a Permanent Member of the Global University Network for Innovation (GUNi). GUNi was created after the 1st UNESCO World Higher Education Conference (WHEC) held by in 1999 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a world leading think tank on higher education policy and management to follow up and facilitate the implementation of its main decisions. With the mission of promoting the role of higher education in society, GUNi currently has 268 members from 85 countries around the world, including higher education institutions, UNESCO Chairs and research centers. Okayama University Senior Vice President and UNESCO Chairholder YOKOI Atsufumi was invited to Barcelona, Spain in May last year for the 3rd WHEC.
 
As a university contributing “from the region to the world,” Okayama University will continue to promote sustainability and wellbeing with various stakeholders while taking this opportunity of becoming a member of GUNi to deepen cooperation with member institutions.
