Okayama University Medical School, Faculty of Medicine was once again awarded accreditation of specialized accreditation evaluation for medical education by the JACME

Okayama University Medical School, Faculty of Medicine underwent its second round of specialized accreditation evaluation for medical education by the Japan Accreditation Council for Medical Education (JACME) and was once again awarded accreditation.

This process began in 2013 to align Japanese medical education with international standards set by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). Universities that receive this accreditation demonstrate that their medical education meets international standards, allowing their graduates to take the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) conducted by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Okayama University Medical School, Faculty of Medicine first received this accreditation in 2016, and with the first accreditation period expiring on March 31, 2024, it applied for the second round in 2023. This involved a self-assessment evaluation followed by a site visit conducted by seven JACME evaluators from May 16 to May 19, 2023, based on the self-assessment report submitted to JACME. On January 19, 2024, it was confirmed that the quality of medical education at Okayama University Medical School, Faculty of Medicine meets international standards, and a certificate of accreditation was issued.

The purpose of this accreditation process is to encourage medical faculties to reflect on their educational programs, identify issues, and improve the quality of education based on external evaluations. Continuous self-assessment and improvement are required, and Okayama University Medical School, Faculty of Medicine intends to further enhance its distinctive features and address areas for improvement as suggested in the evaluation report.
