Unifying Alumni: Okayama University's Meeting with Myanmar and Mandalay Branches

April 08, 2024

On March 23, the Okayama University International Alumni Association (OUIAA) branch meeting with the Myanmar and Mandalay branches was held in Yangon, Myanmar.

This meeting was organized during the visit of Prof. SUZUKI Takayoshi, Vice President for International Affairs and Alumni, to Yangon, and brought together alumni members from Yangon and Mandalay at the invitation of Dr. Myo Khin, Director of the Myanmar Branch, and Dr. Mya Mya Aye, Director of the Mandalay Branch. In the warm atmosphere of the meeting, Dr. Mya Mya Aye gave an overview of the alumni’s activities, and then shared fond memories of studying at Okayama University (OU).

The OUIAA Myanmar Branch was established in 2014, followed by the establishment of the Mandalay Branch in 2018. At the same time, the Okayama University Japan Educational Information Center (OJEIC) opened its offices in Yangon and Mandalay as part of the “Study in Japan Coordinator Project in Myanmar (later “Study in Japan Global Network Project (ASEAN)”) entrusted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Over the past decade, OU has collaborated with both branches of OUIAA, engaging alumni in various activities to promote study in Japan. Starting from the 2024 academic year, this project will enter a new phase as the "Global Network Project to Promote Study in Japan (ASEAN)". With the support of alumni members, OU will continue to lead activities to promote study in Japan and contribute to the globalization of higher education institutions throughout Japan.
