On November 15, a debriefing session for the Japanese delegation to the "One Young World (OYW) 2024 Montreal" was held at Otemachi Place West Tower in Tokyo. Mr. Lin Thu Kha Htaik, a fourth-year student in the Program for Global Learners at Okayama University, participated in the OYW 2024 Montreal summit in Canada from September 18 to 21 as a member of the Japanese delegation and attended the event.
The event began with an opening address by the Director of the One Young World Japan Committee, followed by presentations from 10 representatives who shared their experiences and the insights gained at the Summit. Some of the Summit’s sponsors also spoke about the significance of sending young leaders to this international platform.
During the networking session, all the participants, including Mr. Lin Thu Kha Htaik, engaged in productive discussions, exchanging opinions and ideas with fellow delegates.
At the OYW 2024 Montreal Summit, participants, including those from Okayama University, engaged in vibrant discussions on a wide range of global issues such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Health Equity, Indigenous Voices, Peace, and the Climate and Ecosystem Crisis. These discussions transcended national and political boundaries, fostering collaboration in workshops and networking sessions.
This year marked the 14th edition of OYW, and since the OYW Summit Bangkok in 2015, Okayama University has sent two students annually to participate. The next OYW Summit will take place in Munich, Germany, in 2025.
○About One Young World (OYW) Global Summit
Launched at the 2009 World Economic Forum (Davos Forum; headquarters in Geneva) in Switzerland, OYW has become one of the largest international summits, bringing together young leaders aged 18-30 years old from over 190 countries. The Summit, first held in London in 2010, provides a platform for future leaders to collaborate across industry, government, and academia to address global challenges. The network and scale of OYW continue to grow rapidly.
OYW participants, known as "OYW ambassadors," have the opportunity to create long-lasting connections with about 17,000 talented young people from around the world. The Summit is supported by a distinguished group of OYW Counselors, including Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Muhammad Yunus, as well as prime ministers, presidents, government officials, Fortune 500 companies, global leaders in various fields, and prominent figures from culture, media, NGOs, business, and the arts.
