The Institute of Global Human Resource Development pleased to announce the successful conclusion of its 2025 Summer Language Training and Short-term Overseas Program. All participating students have safely returned to Japan. This summer, the program included language training at the University of Adelaide in Australia, the University of Sheffield in UK, and Universiti Malaya as well as the AUN - SUN/SixERS Study and Visit Program in Thailand and a Cross-Cultural Experience Program in Singapore, with a total of 90 students participating.
Mr. KOMATSU Yoshiyuki, a first-year student from the School of Economics who participated in the Cross-Cultural Experience Program, reflected on his experience, stating: “I have always been interested in traveling abroad, but until now, I had never had the opportunity to go. This study abroad program, where we planned everything ourselves and had the chance to engage with local culture while using English, caught my attention, and I decided to participate. At first, I felt quite nervous, but one of the faculty members encouraged me by saying, "Speak confidently, and you will be understood." Following this advice, I made a conscious effort to talk to local people, and the moment I was able to successfully communicate with them, I felt truly happy. Through this experience, my perspective has broadened. I now look forward to continuing my overseas travels, with an awareness of the differences between Singapore and other countries, and deepening my learning along the way. Additionally, I realized the importance of improving my English skills in order to facilitate smoother interactions with people from around the world. I am committed to further developing my language abilities in the future.”
Mr. OKA Hiroaki, a second-year master's student from the Graduate School of Environment, Life, Natural Science and Technology who participated in the Language Training Programs at the University of Sheffield, reflected on his experience, stating: “I decided to participate in this program to gain the stimulating experience of spending several weeks abroad, which I believed would foster my personal growth. As I prepare for my future career, I recognize the importance of improving my English skills, but also of understanding different perspectives and cultural values. This experience allowed me to immerse myself in a different culture, which was an invaluable learning opportunity. Interacting with local people who have an interest in Japan, or who appreciate Japanese culture, provided me with a chance to reflect on both the unique aspects of Japanese culture and the richness of British culture. Living in the UK also gave me the confidence to speak English more freely, and I look forward to applying this newfound confidence and skill in my future professional endeavors, where I hope to actively use English.”
Studying abroad offers more than just an educational experience; it can profoundly transform one’s life. This opportunity not only enhances language skills and intercultural understanding but also expands personal growth and career possibilities. The Institute of Global Human Resource Development looks forward to seeing participating students grow into globally-minded individuals based on the insights they have gained through this program. We will continue to support our students' challenges through a variety of programs and events in the future.
We look forward to welcoming participants for our spring programs!
