On September 20, the Okayama University Glee Club participated in the “64th Chugoku Choral Competition,” held at the JMS Aster Plaza in Hiroshima Prefecture, and won the Gold Award in the University Youth Division of the University/Workplace/General Category—for the second consecutive year!
Seven groups selected as representatives from the prefectural competitions across the Chugoku region competed in this year’s contest. Rankings were determined based on the principle of majority vote by the panel of judges.
Chief conductor KOMIYA Himeno (3rd year, School of Education) expressed her gratitude to the members, saying:
“Through this competition, we were able to grow tremendously in terms of technical skill. In particular, after the prefectural competition, we refined our pitch and rhythmic accuracy and deepened our emotional and scenic expression by reflecting on the judges’ comments. Thanks to these efforts, we delivered an even more fulfilling performance than at the prefectural level. Last year, we won the Gold Award at the Chugoku Competition for the first time in many years, and seeing the wonderful view that our seniors showed us inspired us to take on the challenge again this year. However, about one-third of our members changed since last year, and we worked on different pieces this time, so it felt almost like starting from zero. Although there was pressure, I was truly grateful that the members dedicated themselves to each rehearsal, and I was reminded of the joy of creating music together. I hope this experience helps every member feel, ‘Choral singing is wonderful.’”
The Glee Club is already preparing for its 72nd Regular Concert, to be held on December 27 at the Kurashiki Geibunkan. We hope you will come and enjoy the full power of the Okayama University Glee Club live on stage!
