At the World University Cup Powerlifting 2025, held from July 16 to 20 at the Pullman Istanbul Hotel & Convention Center in Istanbul, Turkey, Okayama University Weight Training Club members SUGINO Hiroki (3rd year, School of Education) and OKA Ayumi (3rd year, School of Letters) represented Japan.
Mr. SUGINO achieved new Japan student records in both the men’s 83 kg deadlift and total, finishing 8th overall. Ms. OKA placed 6th in the women’s 47 kg category.
Both athletes earned their places on Japan’s national team based on their results at the 51st All Japan Student Powerlifting Championships, held on November 16–17 last year.
At the world tournament, they competed against 155 athletes from around the globe.
