Mr. ISHIMOTO Ryuichiro (3rd year, School of Education), a member of the Okayama University Track and Field Club, competed as a member of the Japan National Team in the Men's 400m Hurdles at the 25th Summer Deaflympics Tokyo 2025, held on November 21–22 at Komazawa Olympic Park Stadium (Tokyo). He delivered an outstanding performance and finished 8th overall.

In the semifinals, cheered on by teammates from the stands, Mr. Ishimoto battled fiercely against a Kenyan athlete in the neighboring lane and finished 3rd in his heat, advancing to the final in 7th place. Although he felt he was unable to run his best in the final the following day, he was lifted into the air in celebration by teammates and friends after the race, ending the competition with a fulfilled and heartfelt smile.

After the event, Mr. Ishimoto reflected on his experience, saying with some frustration yet gratitude:
“Once I stepped onto the track, I could see my family, friends, and many familiar faces. Their presence encouraged me so much that I almost cried with joy. It hasn’t always been easy, but I tried to think positively—telling myself that overcoming challenges would only make me stronger. As a result, this past year has truly been one of the most enjoyable periods of my life. I’ve even gotten used to appearing on TV,” he added with a laugh.

Balancing classes, teaching practicum, club duties as manager, and media appearances, this was his first time competing on the international stage.
