Okayama University hosted the “Study in Japan Fair 2026 for Myanmar” online on August 28 and 29, as part of the“Global Network Project to Promote Study in Japan (ASEAN Regional Office).”

The fair aimed to promote study opportunities in Japan for students in Myanmar while providing comprehensive guidance throughout the entire academic journey, from the admission to higher education institutions to career development and employment in Japan.
The event was co-organized by the Embassy of Japan in Myanmar, Myanmar Association of Japan Alumni (MAJA) with the support of the Myanmar-Japan Center for Human Resources Development (MJC), Myanmar-Japan Alliance Business Association, and Myanmar-Japan Platform for Human Resource Development.

The fair comprised three key components: 1)special website, 2) an online general information seminar, and 3) online group consultations. Throughout the fair, a wide range of information related to studying and working in Japan was made available to 1831registered participants.

The online general information seminar attended 162 participants from Myanmar. The session commenced with opening remarks delivered by Mr. YOSHITAKE Shogo, Chargé d’affaires ad interim of Japan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Dr. Zaw Min Aung, President of MAJA, and Prof. SUZUKI Takayoshi, Vice President for International Affairs and Alumni of Okayama University. Following the opening session, 15 institutions introduced their institutions, including Dr. Yuka Hayashi from Okayama University. In addition, MAJA, MJC and Okayama University Japan Educational Information Center (OJEIC) provided essential information on studying in Japan and available scholarships.

During the group consultations, 20 institutions, along with the Embassy of Japan in Myanmar, MAJA and MJC held interactive sessions. A total of 814 Myanmar participants joined to hear presentations from each institution and directly ask questions to professors and current Myanmar students studying in Japan. In Okayama University’s session, two Myanmar students currently enrolled at the University shared their study in Japan experiences, followed by a lively Q&A session.

Okayama University remains committed to supporting Myanmar students who aspire to study in Japan by continuing to host fairs, seminars and other activities that provide essential information and guidance.

●About the “Global Network Project to Promote Study in Japan (ASEAN Regional Office)”
Okayama University has been entrusted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan to implement the "Global Network Project to Promote Study in Japan (ASEAN Regional Office)" since 2024. Through this initiative, we aim to increase the number of international students from ASEAN to over 100,000 (double the number in 2023) in five years.

This project builds on the successful implementation and achievements of the ”Study in Japan Coordinator Project (Myanmar)" (2014–2018) and the " Study in Japan Global Network Project (Southeast Asia)”(2019-2023). Through these initiatives, the number of Myanmar students studying in Japan increased threefold. The project maintains offices in Yangon and Mandalay to support prospective students wishing to study in Japan.
