On September 21, President Yasutomo Nasu, Professor Hisashi Masuyama of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Assistant Professor Kazuhiro Okamoto of the Faculty of Healthcare Development visited the University of Ottawa in Canada, where they attended a special meeting on research collaboration among the University of Ottawa, the University of Fukui, and Okayama University.
The visit followed a delegation from the University of Ottawa to Okayama University in May of this year, which was made possible through many years of research and faculty exchanges in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. It also provided an opportunity for the participants to reunite for the first time in approximately four months.
The meeting was organized under the leadership of Marie-Eve Sylvestre, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ottawa, and Julie St-Pierre, Vice-President, Research and Innovation, who visited Okayama University in May. Presidents and researchers from the three universities gathered to introduce their respective research strengths and distinctive initiatives and to engage in active discussions on institutional-level international collaboration, future joint research—particularly in the fields of medicine, health sciences, and social sciences—and opportunities for researcher and student exchanges.
President Nasu introduced some of Okayama University’s distinctive international initiatives, including its joint human resource development program with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and its hosting of students through the U.S. Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program.
Professor Masuyama and Assistant Professor Okamoto also gave presentations on the history of exchanges between Okayama University and the University of Ottawa in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, as well as prospects for future collaboration.
In addition, participants exchanged information on research funding and scholarship programs available to researchers and students in both countries, leading to concrete discussions aimed at facilitating future exchanges and collaborative research.
Okayama University will continue to deepen its partnerships with strategic partner universities overseas, promote the creation and development of international collaborative research through further expansion of research and student exchanges, and foster individuals with a global perspective who can play active roles in the international community.
