Former President Chiba and Dr. Tanaka honored as professors emeritus at Hue University

May 07, 2012

On April 20th, the Professor Emeritus Commemoration Ceremony was held at Hue University, a partner school in Vietnam. Former President Kyozo Chiba and Executive Adviser Koji Tanaka were both honored with the title of professor emeritus.

Okayama University and Hue University partnered in 2006, and our first international office was established at Hue University in April 2007. In September 2007, a joint Master’s program, “Okayama University–Hue University Graduate School Special Program,” was established to nurture ready-to-succeed students in the field of Agriculture and Environmental Science. This program also contributes to education regarding environmental issues and rural development in Vietnam. The honor of professor emeritus was given in recognition of former President Chiba and Dr. Tanaka’s extraordinary contributions to such efforts, as well as for their efforts to establish an amicable relationship between the two universities.

At the ceremony, Dr. Tanaka delivered a speech in English and expressed his gratitude in receiving the title. He also enjoyed a day of social exchange with attendees from other countries who were also honored with the title of professor emeritus.
