Courtesy Visit by Two Doctors Marking the Tenth Year of Agreement with Myanmar Ministry of Health

To mark the passage of ten years since Okayama University signed a partnership agreement with Myanmar's Ministry of Health, two doctors from the ministry came to Japan and met with President Kiyoshi Morita on October 18.
Okayama University signed an agreement with the Department of Medical Science and Departments of Medical Research of Myanmar's Ministry of Health. In cooperation with the NPO Myanmar-Japan Collaboration Project for Fostering Medical Human Resources
, where many members of our Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Studies are participating in, we have given aid to students from Myanmar and implemented academic exchange.
Dr. Khin May Oo (Director, Department of Medical Research-Lower Myanmar (DMR-LM), Ministry of Health, Myanmar) and Dr. Aye Aye Lwin (Research Officer, Department of Medical Research-Lower Myanmar (DMR-LM), Ministry of Health, Myanmar) who gained his doctorate at our university with the aid of the NPO, visited the president's office. Shigeru Okada, an honorary professor and the director of the NPO, also attended. The two doctors explained the situation in the medical field in Myanmar, and stated their appreciation for Okayama University's cooperation on surgery and other areas, and their hope to further collaborate in the future in fields such as emergency medicine. Mr. Morita said that the university would do all it can to cooperate with them.
Mr. Morita will also attend the commemorative ceremony to be held to mark the tenth anniversary of the agreement in Yangon this September.
