Symposiums on resource plant science held

March 18, 2014

The Institute of Plant Science and Resources organized "the 30th Plant Science and Resources Symposium and the 6th Plant Stress Scientific Research Symposium" which focused on resource plant science and plant stress science at the Kurashiki Arts and Culture hall on March 6 and 7.

Eleven lecturers, including Associate Professor Takeshi Ohbayashi at Tohoku University and Professor Minoru Murata from the Institute who play an active part in the field of plant study, gave presentations on the latest research results on plant stress and the field of genetic resources such as database for co-expression of plant gene, reaction of plant to drought stress, creation of tolerant plants, various environmental adaptation mechanisms, etc. About 140 people including our students, researchers and relevant persons all around the country participated in the symposiums, and vigorously made discussions.

The Institute is a historic research institute celebrating the centennial this year, and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology certified the institute as the "Plant Genetic Resources and Stress Science Center" in the fiscal year 2009. We received the highest mark "S" in an interim evaluation last year, and in order to spread the research results of the institute widely to society, these symposiums are organized every year.
