The 1st URA International Research Seminar 2014 is held

July 14, 2014

Our university’s Research Administrator (URA) office held a “URA International Research Seminar” on July 14th in the main conference room at the Natural Science Research Department Bldg. with the purpose of promoting the globalization of research and education.

This was conducted with the cooperation of the Inorganic Material Laboratory , Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology. Professor Werner Paulus of the Montpellier 2 University in France gave a lecture with the title, “Non-stoichiometric oxides as a platform for applied and academic research.”

He presented information on metallic oxides that has a non-stoichiometric composition and is widely used in materials such as oxygen sensors and fuel batteries. Professor Paulus holds that “For a breakthrough in the complex structure of metallic oxides, high precision experiments utilizing large facilities such as neutron and synchrotron radiation facilities are effective” and by mixing in valuable data that was obtained utilizing these facilities, he commented extensively from the basics to application.
Professor Paulus also presented the education and research project, Erasmus Mundus ”MaMaSELF” that he sponsors. It is an initiative in which he enables students who gather from all over the world to experience experiments at large research facilities set up in various places in Europe and said, “I would like students to strive to improve their research skills by taking advantage of the chance to conduct research at state-of-the-art research facilities.” The approximately 90 students and teaching staff that participated were listening eagerly.
