Guests from Serbia Pay a Courtesy Call on President Morita

July 07, 2015

On July 1 and 2, Rector Vladimir Bumbasirevic and Vice-Rector Ivanka Popovic of the University of Belgrade, Serbia, one of our partner institutions, visited Okayama University to hold discussions with President Kiyoshi Morita and others, and also toured the university campus.

Okayama University concluded an International Exchange Agreement with the University of Belgrade in April 2011, and is currently continuing stable exchanges, including the acceptance of students from the University of Belgrade and the invitation and dispatch of teaching staff. On July 1, the Serbian guests paid a courtesy call on President Kiyoshi Morita and Prof. Masaru Araki, Executive Director and Vice President (Social Responsibility and International Affairs), with the goal of promoting further exchanges between the two universities. As well as holding discussions with Prof. Mitsune Tanimoto, Dean of the Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the guests also visited facilities such as the Exploratory Drug Development Office and the Interventional Radiology (IVR) Center of Okayama University Hospital.

On July 2, the visitors toured the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Environmental Science and Technology. As well as holding discussions with Prof. Mitsuji Monta, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and Prof. Kunio Kimura, Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Science and Technology, the guests also inspected several facilities, such as the Assisted Reproductive Technology Center, the Faculty of Agriculture Field Science Center, and the Faculty of Environmental Science and Technology’s Biotope. The visitors also held student exchanges by participating in Prof. Michitaka Suzuki’s Serbian language class at the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

At the end of the visit, Rector Vladimir Bumbasirevic said, “I felt that Okayama University has excellent facilities and is blessed with a fine natural environment. Thus far, our exchanges have centered on humanities and social sciences, but we would also be delighted to realize exchanges in the fields of medicine and science.”
