Okayama University Office in Shanghai Opens: Opening Ceremony Held

On October 1, Okayama University opened its Shanghai Office in Shanghai City, the People’s Republic of China, and an opening ceremony was held for the office on October 29.

Included among the 50 attendees at the ceremony were Consul-General Kazuyuki Katayama of the Consulate-General of Japan in Shanghai; Tatsuya Yokoyama, General Manager of the Shanghai office of the Japan-China Economic Association; and Hu Shougen, President of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST). President Kiyoshi Morita, Executive Director and Vice President for Social Responsibility and International Affairs Masaru Araki, Director of the Center for Global Partnerships and Education Yoko Yamamoto, as well as alumni of Okayama University also attended the opening ceremony. In his greeting, President Morita said, “With this Shanghai Office as a contact point for the world in the most important economic and cultural city of China, we intend to further deepen our globalization and aim to increase the numbers of overseas students at our university.”

Situated within USST, with which Okayama University has concluded an International Exchange Agreement, the office performs the work of counseling overseas students and also plays an active role as a liaison office for joint research overseas research institutes, the promotion of academic and educational exchanges, information dissemination, and as a base for the university’s China strategy. Okayama University and USST concluded an International Exchange Agreement in May 2011, and are actively engaged in conducting exchanges, such as the conclusion of an appendix to the International Exchange Agreement regarding student exchanges in August 2014, with the anticipation of lively exchanges to come in the future.

Okayama University now has overseas offices in five countries, China (Changchun and Shenyang), Vietnam, India, the UK and Myanmar, the Shanghai Office being the seventh office to be established.
