Prof. Qin Zhao Ming, Assistant Dean of the Preparatory School for Chinese Students to Japan in Northeast Normal University in the People’s Republic of China visited Okayama University on November 12.

Professor Qin held a meeting with Executive Director and Vice President for Education Nam-ho Huh and Executive Director and Vice President for Social Responsibility and International Affairs Masaru Araki to discuss the planning of the Preparatory Educational Program for Chinese Students who will be dispatched to Japan as government-sponsored students for the next academic year.

Okayama University and Northeast Normal University have a long history of exchanges that reaches back almost 40 years. Northeast Normal University was the first Asian university with which Okayama University concluded an International Exchange Agreement and the next academic year will mark the 30th anniversary of conclusion of the agreement. The achievements of the agreement include the dispatch of 20 faculty and staff, the acceptance of 23 overseas students in the 2014 academic year. Northeast Normal University is one of the partner universities with which Okayama University has the most active exchange program.

In 2011, Okayama University Changchun Office was established within Northeast Normal University on the occasion of the start of the Okayama University-North East China Universities Platform ‘Graduate’ Student Exchange Program (O-NECUS). At present, the office has full-time local staff, who have been supporting the activities of Okayama University in China.

From academic year 2015, Okayama University has dispatched a team of nine faculty, under the leadership of Professor Akio Gofuku from the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology as the coordinator for the Preparatory School for Chinese Students to Japan.

We intend to further strengthen the cooperative relations between the two universities in the upcoming academic year.
