Student wins the 59kg class of the 1st University Powerlifting World Cup 2016!

The 1st University Powerlifting World Cup was held in Minsk, Belarus, from July 11-17, with six Weight Training Club members from Okayama University competing as representatives of Japan.

Kazumasa Kimura, a senior in the Faculty of Law, won the men’s 59kg class. On becoming a world champion, he expressed his excitement by stating, “I am so happy to win at the 1st University Powerlifting World Cup.” Yuta Fujimura, a senior in the Faculty of Agriculture who competed in the men’s 74kg class and placed fifth, stated, “This is the first time for me to compete in a World Cup. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who made it possible.”

For team points, Okayama University did an outstanding job placing fourth amongst 29 world-renowned universities that included universities such as Cambridge University and University of Melbourne. Okayama University’s Weight Training Club is one of the best and strongest teams in Japan, which won the group category in the 2015 All Japan Students Powerlifting Championships, as well as winning the All Japan Students Competition 11 times so far.
